This piece of art is carved with a cicada on a calabash and lotus leaf using the stone Shoushanshi from the Shoushan Village of Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Shoushanshi has the longest history being used for seal carving and was excavated since the South Dynasty (AD 445). And among the over one hundred different varieties of Shoushanshi, Tianhuangshi is recognized as the best.

Calabash, Cicada and Lotus Leaf in Chinese culture are auspicious symbols for bringing in wealth, luck and peace.
