This piece of art is carved with a cicada on a calabash using the stone Peach Blossom Cold Shoushanshi from the Shoushan Village of Fuzhou, Fujian Province. Shoushanshi has the longest history being used for seal carving and was excavated since the South Dynasty (AD 445). And among the over one hundred different varieties of Shoushanshi, Tianhuangshi is recognized as the best.Calabash and Cicada in Chinese culture are auspicious symbols for bringing in wealth and luck.
