This seal is made of the very precious stone from Qingtian County, Zhejiang Province of China and was the very fisrt stone used for seal carving. Qingtian stone has peculiar and colorful veins of waxy and lipid feel, with glassy luster, varying from translucent to opaque, and of solidly dense texture.

Qingtian stone, Tianhuang stone, Balin stone and 'Chicken Blood stone' (Jixue shi) are all first-class materials among stones used for seal carving.
